Mallori asked [in a comment to “Prison Suicide” 5/16/11] me about my stance on death sentences. I am for the death penalty. I don’t have any problems with the different means, all of which are better, and more dignified, than that of their victims. I do feel it takes too long to exhaust the appeals. I think death sentence cases should be prioritized and fast tracked through the appeals. There’s no reason appeals should take 27 years. I think one year per appeal is sufficient.
The prison i am in has almost 200 men and women on death row. This last person to be executed filed, and had heard, 3 appeals in his final week. If he had 3 appeals heard in one week, how many were heard over his 27 years on death row?
Compared to what they did to their victims, execution and life in prison are definitely the easy way out. Only hard on families and tax players.
